First Aid/CPR/AED/Naloxone Requirements

UCSD Recreation encourages and supports all hired staff and volunteers to be trained in CPR/First Aid/AED/Naloxone . 

Courses

• Recreation sponsors multiple American Red Cross certification and recertification sessions each quarter. They are available for viewing and registration at the Recreation Online Store. 

• Courses are offered free of charge for all hired Recreation staff and official volunteers. Recreation covers the cost of the certification. Discounts should be automatically applied during online registration. If you have problems, contact your supervisor. Time spent getting certified is not paid.  

• Individuals are welcome to obtain certification outside of Recreation’s sponsored courses, but costs are not reimbursable. 

Certification Requirement

• Applies to most 4 tiered student positions

  • Tiers 1 are encouraged to get certified

  • Every Tier above Tier 1 (2, 3 and 4) must obtain certification prior to promotion and must maintain certification throughout employment. 

    • While these positions do not require certification, it is encouraged.

      • Marketing Assistant

      • Business Office Assistants

      • Scheduling Assistants

      • Rec Class Program Assistants

      • FitLife Program Assistants

• Some positions require certification no matter the tier; lifeguards for example. Depending on the position, the cert must be obtained prior to employment, while for others it must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Ask your supervisor about your specific position.
